Our governing body plays a significant role in ensuring the best possible education for your children. Governors help us, for example, to ensure that the resources of the school are used wisely to improve both the children's learning and their enjoyment of school and all that it offers. Additionally, they act as a "critical friend" sharing their advice and experience. 

We are looking for parent governors to expand our friendly and supportive team. Meetings are time bonded and held every half term, first thing in the morning. If this is a role which interests you, or you would like to learn more, please email office@new-haw.surrey.sch.uk.

We have received the following information from Surrey County Council, which may be of interest to anyone currently facing financial hardship:

We are sorry that at that moment, we are unable to invite you in to see our lovely school.  However, in the absence of a visit we have created a short film which we hope will offer you an insight into the aspirations and ethos of our school. As we look ahead to September we are greatly looking forward to welcoming all our pupils to school.  However, we anticipate that we will still be working within COVID-19 guidelines for schools as outlined below.  The children’s first day of the 2020-21 academic year will be Wednesday 2nd September.

Protective ‘bubbles’

Government guidance for September states that schools should do all they can to minimise contacts and mixing, whilst delivering a broad and balanced curriculum.  The overarching principle is to reduce the number of contacts between children and staff by keeping the children in consistent groups. Maintaining distinct groups or ‘bubbles’ that do not mix makes it quicker and easier, in the event of positive cases of COVID-19, to identify those who may need to self-isolate.  At New Haw, in September, children will be placed in year group bubbles.  Children in one bubble will not mix with children in other bubbles during the school day,  other than in the school toilets Year 3, for example, will play and eat lunch only with other Year 3 children.

Arriving and leaving school

Government guidance  to schools also states that parents are not allowed to gather at the school gates, nor come onto the school site without a pre-arranged appointment.  Schools have been advised to stagger start and finish times to keep groups apart. The timings for September will therefore be as follows:

Our Learning/Year 3/4/5/6/COVID-19 Working from home. 

On the day of the event, the children will be given an activity sheet which will include some clues to find Easter themed pictures that will be located throughout the school playground. At each picture there will be a stamp to collect on the answer sheet. The children will also have to collect letter stamps which will spell out an Easter related phrase. Once the answer sheet has been completed it needs to be returned to the PTA team to exchange for a chocolate Easter Egg.

You may be aware that advice for travellers from affected areas has recently changed and it has come to our attention that this may affect children and staff returning from school trips. Please be aware that this is a fast evolving situation and we will continue to share any new advice at the earliest opportunity.

The safety of our pupils is always at the forefront of our minds.  In today’s day and age, teaching about e-safety and being safe when using technology, is of vital importance at both home and school.  Online abuse is any type of abuse that happens on the web, whether through social networks, playing online games or using mobile devices.  Children and young people may experience cyberbullying, grooming, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or emotional abuse.  They may be at risk of online abuse from people they know, as well as strangers.  Below are some statistics that you may not be aware of:
